Tribal Properties / Nohoanga

Tribal Properties activities continue to focus on working with kaitiaki rūnanga to protect and enhance the values of the properties in keeping with rūnanga aspirations. This work encompasses management, development and restoration of significant sites across the takiwā and the new staff member responsible for this work has been kept busy establishing and maintaining relationships with whānau, rūnanga, local authorities, adjacent landowners and the Department of Conservation. The focus has been on furthering projects such as the development of entrances to Ōnawe Pā and Te Raka a Hineatea by developing working parties and securing resources to complete physical works and restoration. The Kaikōura campgrounds renewal process has been a time consuming but rewarding process.

Nohoanga continue to be used by a small group of whānau from mid-August through to April although predominantly over the Christmas/New Year period. The Lake Hawea nohoanga continues to be the most popular and we are consistently seeking new ways to increase whānau use of this and other nohoanga.
