The Ngāi Tahu Leadership Programme

The Ngāi Tahu Leadership Programme was developed to grow culturally able Ngāi Tahu leaders, who are well connected to their Ngāi Tahu community and outstanding performers in their chosen field. The main objectives of the Leadership Programme remain a priority for Ngāi Tahu; fostering, nurturing and building the leadership progress of Ngāi Tahu at the individual, whānau, hapū, marae, rūnanga, community and organisational level, now and into the future.

The Programme now sits within the People and Performance team, who are responsible for capability building, leadership development, succession planning, organisational development and functional human resource activity. This move has provided the framework and stability required for future development.

A leadership/capability development strategy is to be implemented within the next 12 months. This strategy will provide us with a clear mandate from Te Rūnanga and provide clarity regarding a sense of purpose, direction and anticipated outcomes for the iwi. It will also solidify the support and endorsement of investment in targeted facets of the 'leadership funnel' and provide a rationale for the adoption of those priorities. The strategy will move us away from a programme-based approach to leadership development and capability building, to one that contributes meaningfully to the achievement of the aspirations of Ngāi Tahu Whānui.

Finally, it is important to acknowledge the commitment and dedication of all those involved in ensuring the ongoing success and development of the First Nations' Futures Programme Fellowship.
