Claire Williams
Clare became the interim Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu Representative for Ngāi Tūāhuriri in 2007 after four years as the Alternate.
Claire believes her responsibility, as a Te Rūnanga Representative is to protect the rights and aspirations of her hapū and the wider Ngāi Tahu Whānui. Her vision for Te Ngāi Tūāhuriri is to see the building of a new marae along with economic development that will enhance the lives of her people.
She has a passion for the environment and held the position of Chair of the Te Ngāi Tūāhuriri Resource Management Kōmiti for seven years. Other positions include: Chair, Te Ngāi Tuahuriri Rūnanga, Member of Te Apārangi Komiti, House of Tahu Kōmiti, Te Waihora Management Board and Trustee on Central Plains Water Enhancement Scheme.
Born in Fairlie, Clare moved to Waikuku Beach in North Canterbury over 40 years ago where she still lives today. She is married to Frank and is a mother of four adult children and grandmother to seven mokopuna.
