Lisa Tumahai
Lisa has been a member of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae since 1994. She was elected to the Kāti Waewae Charitable Trust as a Tarapuhi Whanau representative in 1999, then as an executive member of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae Incorporated Society in 2000, since re elected. Lisa was elected as the Ngāti Waewae representative for Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu in 2001.
She is proud to represent the people of Tuhuru. Her runanga mahi is driven by her aroha for Arahura, her whanau and the hapu of Tuhuru.
Lisa is a direct descendant of Te Riaki and Teoti Tauwhare of Arahura, daughter of Gay and Tahana Tauwhare and is married with two children and one whangai.
Lisa was instrumental in ensuring democratic election processes took place within Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae and, along with the other executive members in 2001, ensured the Papatipu Rūnanga was inclusive of all whanau. She has fulfilled key duties for the Rūnanga as the secretary then treasurer. Always keen for someone else to take over those roles, Lisa has stayed on in executive positions until others are ready to step forward and take up the tasks.
As an executive member of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae Lisa supports the mahi of our Kaumātua Komiti, Marae Development Komiti and Finance Komiti. Lisa is the Chair of Kāti Waewae Charitable Trust and in this role continues to strive for regional and economic development.
Lisa is a Service Portfolio Manager for the Planning and Funding Division of the Canterbury District Health Board. She is a part time student, studying towards a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Business Management. She has held a number of governance positions and sat on many community boards over the past 15 years.
Lisa welcomes and encourages whānau to contact her to discuss any whānau, hapu or iwi issues they wish to.
